SCHOLARSHIPS - LOCAL American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO Milwaukee Area Local Proudly Awards Two (2) $500.00 Scholarships per year; The John Akey Memorial Scholarship The Milwaukee Area Local Scholarship 1. This scholarship application is offered to current graduating high school seniors. 2. The applicant must be a child, stepchild or legally adopted child of a current active member in good standing or of a deceased member of the Milwaukee Area Local. 3. The local’s Recording Secretary will verify member’s eligibility before any application will be considered for an award. 4. The scholarship recipient must attend an accredited college, university or vocational technical school of their choice leading to a two year or four year certificate or degree. 5. Winners must be accepted into an accredited school within 4 months of naming the winners. 6. When the recipient notifies the Milwaukee Area Local Treasurer that he/she will be accepted, the Treasurer will send (to the school’s business office) a check in the school’s name. The scholarship will be paid directly to the educational facility. 7. In the event that the student does not attend or drops out, any monies refunded must be returned to the Milwaukee Area Local. 8.
